Over the last 20 years I had the pleasure and the honour to be invited to contribute as chairman, keynote speaker, speaker, moderator and / or member of juries at various international internet marketing conferences and events, with regular presence at the main international conference circuits for search and social media marketing.

Facebook is where you can find some of my social posting, even thought I’m not keen on sharing my personal info anymore on social media, and I mostly use Facebook to share my creative stuff and to stay connected with friends.
Facebook is where you can find the latest news and announcement about Burningmax’s creative work, mostly new projects and exhibitions, photo galleries, and the sharing of Burningmax’s music and DJ sets.
Instagram is another of the social media outlets I use to promote my creative work, and no personal info. Click the link below to follow or DM me on Instagram.
Twitter is a media outlet that I used extensively for its first 10 years of service. I even had ad hoc Twitter channels I used to live tweet from internet marketing conferences. Then Twitter gradually degraded to become a toxic environment, a platform to spread hate, so I left.
At the beginning of 2022 I have finally made peace with the platform and I started using it again, but only to carry on an art/literary project, posting one haiku a day for the entire year.
Ello is an advertising-free social network design to serve a creative community. I love Ello and its community, so I planned several times to drop Facebook for good and concentrate my social media activity on Ello (and Mastodon) instead.
Unfortunately this comes at a time when I’m kind of dropping all social media, so I’m not being active on Ello. You can follow me anyway, I’m sure I’ll re-kickoff the channel sooner or later.
Mastodon is an open-source and advertising-free social network where I created an account on the @art server.
Unfortunately, pretty much like with the creative social network Ello, I’m not dedicating enough time to Mastodon – but I’m sure I will soon, when I’ll drop Facebook for good.
Yes, I’m studying Japanese. No, I’m sorry. the portfolio is not public. You would need a link and a password to access it, and it will be written in Japanese anyway, so forget it, but you can still visit the home landing page.
Burningmax.com is the main website I have been using for the last 15 years to publish info about my art and creative projects.
Over time the website got too crowded with content, and I had to split the website in two – one part dedicated to music, another to art projects. I guess one day I will redesign the entire website. For now, here is a link to see all of Massimo Burgio / Burningmax’s art projects on a timeline.
While you can find many of my stuff from Burning Man (and other burners gathering) here and there (pictures on Flickr, art and music on burnngmax.com), here is a link of a little forgotten gem: one of my early blogs on one of the early bloggin platforms (Blogger), which I dedicated to the first 5 years of my participation within the community (2003-2008).
The blog has a very old look’n’feel, but it has been designed as a blog should be, with plenty of very interesting links on the sidebar, that I invite you to explore.
DJing is a relatively new passion compared to my other creative interests such as art installations and photography., I started putting my hands on decks and I started having people dancing to my beats at festivals only in 2009. Of course the inspiration came at Burning Man, so I adopted as a DJ/producer the same name I have been know for on the playa, Burningmax.
Truth is that I have always been into music, and I do have a huge vinyl, DC and digital music collection. I have been doing radio DJing in the early ’90 and also more recently, and I always loved to create mixtapes and CD playlist. Until I get to know the Traktor technology from Native Instrument, the top tech gear for djing, and I got hooked.
You can find on burningmax.com plenty of live and studio DJ sets, as well as remixes and some of my own music production, and you’ll be able to download what you like in .mp3 version. Enjoy.
The Haiku Project has been going on for years. There was a time, around 20 years ago, when i would piss my friends off as sometimes I would just start communicating only by using the magic 5-7-5 syllables rule of the Japanese zen poetry.
The proper Haiku Project started as I created the website burningmax.com, where all pages in the music section have their own haiku, strictly related to that specific kind of sound. The link below will take you to a page of the website where all the haikus published on burningmax.com are collected.
At the beginning of 2022, The Haiku Project got a second wind when I started a dedicated Twitter account @Haiku2022 for a special project: “one haiku per day” for the entire 2022. You should check it out.
MAMA Collective is currently working on an interactive installation project to be presented in Rome soon – no spoilers for the moment.
SoundCloud is the online music sharing platform where you can find most of Burningmax’s original music productions and remixes.
Morphinauts is another sound project by Burningmax. Originally crafted around dance beats mixed with nature and space sound loops, the Morphinauts project evolved to become a live ambient music djing gig.
Agnixam’s sound is beyond “ecstatic dance”, as the result get really spiritual, to the point that the few times Agnixam has performed live it has been at ashrams and spiritual festivals. Namaste, motherfuckers.
Experimental video production is fun, and over time I have produced a few video projects, including a fiction experimental short film.
Unfortunately, I cannot share online some of them due to copyright restrictions for the soundtracks I used, or are so experimental that have been shot with early versions of digital cameras and smartphones, with low definition and bad image quality, compared to today’s digital homemade videos.
Soon I’ll create anyway a page that collects all my experimental ventures in video land, and I will share its link from here. Stay tuned.
// coming soon
Non c’è rosa senza spine is the new project I’ve been working on for the last months together with accomplice friend, burner and videomaker Marta Ronzone, under the common label of MAMA Collective.
No spoilers for now – follow MAMA Collective to stay up to date with the project’s development.
Created for a collective exhibition scheduled in November 2021 and canceled for covid, Holy Shit has not been publicly shown yet, and the only information about the artwork are those I shared on social media alongside a photo gallery and a video.
Lung-ta is a site-specific art installation and, at the same time, a covid memorial for the deceased in the Rome area during the covid pandemic.
Entirely created with thousands of colored surgical mask arranged in the same fashion as himalayan prayer flags, the mask/flags also carried various messages from Surrealist artists, written / printed on the masks using a Sanskrit-like font.
The installation has been showcased in Rome at T.A.G. – Tevere Art Gallery in October 2021.
The original project gave birth to several spin-offs, including a street art operation, then with another exhibition of a “remixed” version of the installation, and still there is the potential for Lung-ta to end up as part of a Burning Man temple project in the next future. Check out the project website for more info.
Lung-ta Remixed is a spin-off of the Lung-ta project, an installation entirely made with colored surgical masks arranged in the fashion of himalayan prayer flags as a memorial for the victims of the covid pandemic.
The “remixed” version of the installation has been produced for an event created by the Together Mansion in Rome, and has been placed in the official program of RAW 2021 – Rome Art Week. Check out the project website for more info.
50 Shades of Green completed a successful Italian tour in 2019, having been showcased at the major cannabis culture events in Rome, Milan and Bologna.
A European tour was scheduled for 2022 but it has been canceled due to the covid pandemic. There is currently a plan to showcase the installation across Europe in 2023. Check out the project website for more info and updates.
CDAN Huesca (Centro de Arte y Naturaleza) is a contemporary art space and museum in Huesca, Spain, totally dedicated to Land Art.
When CDAN got noticed that I was creating a land art installation dedicated to George Orwell and the Spanish Civili War in the nearby mountains of Los Monegros, the museum invited me to create a site-specific installation at their Huesca space as an extension of the work produced in the nearby civil war trenches. Check out the project website for more info.
Al Naturale is a 1996 site-specific post-it art installation for a collective art exhibition in Rome, The installation highlighted environmental issues, such as air pollution. To create the installation I used city smog scraped from Rome’s buildings.
The installation has been presented at Villa Mazzanti in Rome and has been one of the firsts efforts in art installations, after many years of “framed” artwork.
Apparenti Trasparenze has been my very first art installation, all post-it based, for a collective art exhibition in Rome, I created for the exhibition a 4-piece post-it artwork framed in plexiglass, that surrounded three central plexiglass columns containing post-it.
While the exhibition also hosted my previous post-it and non post-it works alongside the main installation, “Apparenti Trasparenze” has been in fact not only my very first site-specific art installation, but also the first time I took post-it out of a “framed” object, moving on from the production of “paintings” to the production of objects and “sculptures” for the creation of art installations.
Unfortunately Apparenti Trasparenze has not been well documented, besides of a few, low-quality, 1992 pictures and a dusty printed catalogue, You can find the pictures in the “post-it art” section of my website, following the link below.
I love the post–it medium and I am currently planning a new post-it installation, that I will announce soon. No spoilers. For more info about my research and production in post-it art follow the link below.
My early works, meaning those I created between the end of the ’80s and the beginning of the ’90s, before diving into post-it art, are somehow collected and documented on my website.
Unfortunately, some of the works have been lost, or destroyed because of heavy damages by time and mishandling. Other works, including some of my first art installations, has not even been documented.
Explore my early works by following the link below.
The installation embraced both environmental and social topics, being presented right after the pandemic lockdowns, when we could be back to “breathe”, and in the wake of the killing of George Floyd in the United States, and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, with the installation inviting to reflect about the fact that we cannot stand no more any racism, police brutality, and “I can’t breathe”.
More info about the Breathe at the dedicated project website.
The aqueduct of H2O Project, powered by Arduino, triggered light and sound effects according to users’ interaction. The installation has been the product of a huge effort by a large network of creative people and volunteers, who joined in the production and set-up of the installation piece.
More info about the H2O Project at the dedicated project website.
The installation plays around a very popular Italian tongue-twister to address the degradation of the nearby archeological site of the roman-era Temple of Apollo.
More info about the land art installation at the dedicated project website.
The Zone is a reflection about Temporary Autonomous Zones and all the rules and red tapes that are necessary to make a “free expression community” happen.
More info about the land art installation at the link below.
Orwell Monegros is a permanent site-specific land art installation in the trenches of the Spanish Civil War where George Orwell fought, as part of the Orwell Monegros project. Sierra de Alcubierre, Monegros, Spain.
Burning Man Temples are a fascinating and deeply spiritual tradition at Burning Man, as well as at many burners gathering around the world.
Over my 20 years of commitment with the Burning Man community, I had the pleasure and the honour of being part of several Temple Crews, including the crew who built Temple of Transition in Black Rock City in 2011, and a few temples at Nowhere and other local burners gatherings in Spain.
For more info on my commitment on Burning Man Temples, check out the link below.
Camera With View: Rome is going to be a site-specific interactive art installation that highlights the loss of privacy due to the overwhelming saturation of video surveillance cameras everywhere, not to mentioning those countries (i.e. China) who are using the technology to impose a dystopian society regulated by credit scores.
No more spoilers for now – stay tuned for more announcements about the project.
// coming soon
Otherworldly Tales is a project I’m currently working on, designed to be presented to the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy.
No more spoilers for now – stay tuned for more announcements about the project.

Shimenawa Spirit is a project I’m currently working on, designed for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field Triennale, Japan.
No more spoilers for now – stay tuned for more announcements about the project.

Asturias Paraíso Cultural is a project I’ve committed to between the years of 2007 and 2009, with the goal of spreading culture across Asturias through the organization and promotion of cultural events and initiatives all over the northern Spanish region.
Unfortunately the project, a start-up created with a group of creative minds from Asturias, didn’t reach its final goal, even if we succeeded in creating a community around the project. But we met a lot of resistance from local institutions, not so keen on having private entrepreneurs taking over the cultural industry. As a consequence, a lot of doors started closing on us and our plans with a domino effect.
The project, at least in spirit, is still in my heart, and I don’t exclude the possibility of giving it a second wind sooner or later. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Charity4Africa has been in my plans for a very long time. About 10 years ago I launched an idea for a fundraising game and app that would have helped several NGOs operating across Africa in the field of children’s education.
The initial name of the fundraising platform and app was iPad4Africa, and the development project was designed to be a gift economy effort; unfortunately I couldn’t get a real “gift” commitment from the other parts involved (i.e. game developers), so the project was set aside.
The project is still there, even if of course it will need to be updated on some operational details. Just before the pandemic I pitched the project again to a B Corp certified company, but no luck also there. Hold on, kids – help is coming.
For more info about the original idea for the fundraising campaign, check out the original iPad4Africa website at the link below.
